Armstrong Creek School - Takes Diversity To Heart

Wednesday, 13 January 2021

Talk with Armstrong Creek School Principal Evan Savage and you will soon discover that the school’s motto, ‘The Heart of Opportunity’, truly guides its focus on embracing challenge and innovation.

Armstrong Creek School - Takes Diversity To Heart
“We design opportunities for students to achieve their personal best in a positive environment,” says Mr Savage. “Here children are inspired to learn, grow and thrive. ”

“Innovative learning and teaching is at the centre of everything we do.”

To that end, the school stresses meeting each child’s individual needs by delivering both high quality teaching and the on-going support needed for all students to have real and relevant learning opportunities.

Faced with the challenge of continuing during the COVID restrictions, this support proved invaluable.

Each and every teacher was dedicated to maintaining learning continuity,’ explains Principal Savage.  ‘We all stayed connected to each other and the school as a whole. Along with the positive and supportive attitudes of students and their families, we were able to ensure the highest level was achieved in all aspects of learning.”

In addition, the school values its role of as an integral part of Warralily’s village lifestyle. Its state-of-the-art amenities, for example, are not only flexible and adaptable spaces for contemporary learning, but also designed with the local community in mind.

Here local families can enjoy art, sport and recreation programs in first-class facilities, including a gymnasium, ovals, soccer pitch, outdoor netball and basketball courts, tennis and volleyball courts.  The Community Hub is used by the school during the day and is available to the YMCA (for before and after school care) and numerous community programs at other times.

Along with an emphasis on a strong foundation of English, maths and humanities, the school’s visual and performing arts programs foster confidence through opportunities to be independent, expressive and creative.  A lifelong appreciation for sport and leisure is also established, developing fundamental movement and sports skills critical for children to feel good about physical activity.

Seen as a leader in Inclusive Education, the school is unique due to its dual enrolment provisions – welcoming both Primary School enrolment and P – 12 Special Education enrolment – as part of the single campus setting with more than 500 students currently enrolled.

This year will see the introduction of LOTE (Languages Other Than English) for the first time, with the language of choice being Auslan (Australian Sign Language). It will also welcome a new neighbour, Oberon High School.

As part of their commitment to the environment and sustainability, the school is in partnership with CERES to complete the ResourceSmart Schools program.
